We look forward to helping each new dental patient who comes to Abdoney Pediatric Dentistry get a smile they'll be proud to show off to their friends and family. We know that children both young and old often have anxiety or get scared when they have to go to the dentist - which is why we've worked hard to made our dental office very "kid-friendly"! By giving them fun things to do (like playing video games) while they're waiting for their appointment, we make their visit (and yours!) more enjoyable, while at the same time making sure they receive the important dental care that's so important to their overall health.
Below you'll find descriptions of some of the most common dental services we provide. If you have any questions, or to schedule an appointment, we welcome you to call us directly at 813-651-0400.
Teeth Cleanings should be done twice a year to maintain proper dental health.
We will apply fluoride to your child's teeth after their cleaning and flossing to help the tooth enamel maintain its strength and help prevent the formation of cavities.
We perform x-rays on site to identify and diagnose tooth decay and dental disease unseen by the naked eye. The x-rays provide valuable information on the development of teeth under the gum line as well as tumors or cysts that may be present in the bone or undeveloped teeth.
Dental Sealants are similar to weatherproofing your deck or applying polish on your nails, in that no numbing of the mouth is required and the sealant works as a barrier for anything that comes in contact with your tooth. They are great for helping to keep food from the grooves in your child's teeth that can be hard to keep clean. Sealants work better for some patients than others, though, and Dr. Abdoney would evaluate your dental needs and discuss the options with you.
When its too late to prevent the cavity, you have to fill it. The procedure typically requires some numbing of the surrounding gum area and are relatively simple when treated early enough, as it doesn't requre much preparation and less of the healthy tooth is removed.
In younger patients still losing their baby teeth that may suffer from a cavity or cavities that have grown too big to be treated by dental filling, temporary crowns may be the best option. They will help provide the protection for baby teeth that have required root canal therapy.
Baby dental checkups, space maintainers for children who have lost back teeth early due to tooth decay or abscess, counseling on proper oral hygiene for new parents.
For children with anxiety or difficulty remaining still during the required dental procedures, we can provide nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help calm the nerves. While it helps the patient to relax, they remain awake throughout the procedure.
